We are pleased that you are interested in the Home Health Aid Program at Desert Valley Nursing Institute (DVNI). This Program is designed to prepare students in supportive care to be delivered in the home or hospice setting. Home Health Aids work independently or for a Home Care or Hospice agency under the supervision of a licensed nurse case manager.

Home care duties may include personal care such as bathing, dressing, and grooming.  Other supportive services may include light housekeeping, laundry services, shopping for food, preparing and serving meals, and other tasks in the home. Home health aid duties may also include other duties listed in the California Certified Nurse Assistant scope of practice.

Home Health Aids working for a Hospice agency will also provide comfort and supportive services to those in the end of life stages. Care assignments may be delivered in the home, Skilled Nursing facilities, and other health care settings.

Program Description:  This is a 40 hour Program approved by California Department of Public Health. 20 hours will be conducted as theory training in the classroom, and 20 hours will be conducted as clinical training in a Skilled Nursing Facility under the direct supervision of an approved RN. This Program is offered twice a year.

Pre-requisites:  current CA CNA certification; OR have recently completed a California Department of Public Health approved Nurse Assistant Training Program, evidenced by school transcript, and awaiting to take the California state exam. 

***NOTE: CDPH will not issue a candidate the Home Health Aid certification until the candidate has passed the Certified Nurse Assistant state exam and met all requirements for CNA certification.

CPR card-BLS through AHA 

Physical and TB test current within the last year
Covid Vaccination with Booster
Covid testing may be required by clinical site

Submit enrollment agreement, photo ID, SS card, CNA certificate or transcript from CDPH approved CNA program within 3 business days after enrollment fee is paid.
